The Network for Science and Technology Indicators (RICYT) announces the 2017 version of “El Estado de la Ciencia”. The report shows the main indicators for Science and Research within Latin American countries together with Portugal and Spain.

As outstanding results of this edition, the Latin America patents requested as a result of local research increased by almost 30% between 2005-2015, especially in Chile and Colombia, However, Latin America still has a small number of patent applications. Among other published results, the report details that the scientific research is still performed in the Universities. On the other hand, the report shows a high international collaboration, derived from the fact that the works are signed by scientists from different countries.
