The project is driven by the University of Alicante, among other institutions, and was created to address a key gap in the field: the lack of standardised, comparable and up-to-date data that would allow us to understand how these practices are being applied, which capabilities are being developed, and which barriers still persist. Without this information, many strategic decisions are made with limited visibility and insufficient evidence.

Understanding a transition in progress

Artificial intelligence is profoundly transforming the way organisations observe their environment, interpret signals of change and support decision-making. However, this transformation is not unfolding evenly. There are significant differences in adoption speeds, levels of formalisation and methodological approaches across sectors, countries and types of organisations.

To capture this diversity of realities, Monitor-i is launching the first wave of a periodic study designed to analyse the evolution of technology monitoring and strategic intelligence practices over time, and to build a solid base of comparative knowledge to support the entire sector.

A survey designed for those working with strategic information

The questionnaire is aimed at professionals and organisations from any sector that carry out activities related to technology monitoring, strategic, competitive or market intelligence, regardless of their level of maturity or formalisation. From early-stage practices to well-established systems, all experiences add value, as they help identify common barriers, opportunities for improvement and shared patterns in a context of accelerated change.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous. All responses will be treated confidentially and used exclusively for research purposes, in compliance with data protection regulations and international ethical principles, with the aim of fostering trust and ensuring a safe environment for participation.

What the first wave of the study covers

This first wave will provide a current snapshot of how technology monitoring and strategic intelligence are being developed in the age of AI. The questionnaire is structured into six concise sections, covering the key processes of the monitoring and intelligence cycle:

  • use of artificial intelligence
  • planning
  • information collection
  • interpretation and analysis
  • communication of results
  • impact and contribution to organisational improvement

Completing the questionnaire takes approximately 15 minutes, allows responses to be saved and resumed later, can be completed on any device, and is available in Spanish, Portuguese and English, facilitating international participation.

How to take part

To request participation in the study, simply complete the form available on the project website, where access to the questionnaire and all relevant information is provided:
www.monitor-i.com

In addition, participants who complete the questionnaire may optionally receive the practical tutorial “Activate an automatic environmental radar using the Gemini API”, designed to support the development of hands-on capabilities for AI-enabled environmental monitoring.

Monitor-i is driven by universities and international strategic partners and aims to become a reference platform for analysis, comparison and learning in technology monitoring and intelligence.
